Did you know, the Toyota Motor Corporation was founded by Kiichiro Toyoda in 1937? Hiichiro started the company as a spin-off of Toyota Industries, his father’s company. In 1933, while Toyota was still a division of Toyoda Automatic Loom Works, the first cars were created called the A1 and the G1. These cars were branded with the Toyoda name. In 1947, Toyota sold the Toyopet SA . By the 1950’s, Toyota’s brand Toyopet had models such as the Crown, Corona, Master, Stout and SB. By 1957, Toyota came into the United States of America exporting the Toyopet Crown. The 1960’s included Toyota cars like the Corolla, Corona, Crown, Pick-up, Tiara and 200GT. In the 1970’s, Toyota added the Carina, Celica, Celica Supra and the Cressida.
The Toyota 1980-1990’s models included the 4-runner, Avalon, Camry, Land Cruiser, MR2, Paseo, Pick-up, Rav4, Supra, Starlet, T-100 and Van. In the 1980’s, Toyota also helped General Motors by partnering with them on some cars such as the Chevrolet Nova. By 1989, Toyota created the division named Lexus. By the 2000’s, Toyota models included the Avalon, Camry, Celica, Corolla, Echo, FJ Cruiser, Highlander, Hilux, Land Cruiser, Matrix, MR2 Spyder, Prius (hybrid), Rav4, Sequoia, Sienna, Solara, Tacoma, Tundra, Venza and Yaris. The Toyota Prius marked the beginning of the new kind of car using hybrid electric technology. Toyota created the division Scion in 2002. By 2008, Toyota became the #1 selling automobile manufacturer in the world.
Toyota has had a reputation of quality for decades. Many Toyota customers become repeat customers since the Toyota product is quite dependable. Toyota did however have some recalls late in the 2000’s that caused a safety epidemic for their name. Despite the recalls on their electronic throttles and sticking accelerator pedals, Toyota still stands tall in the Automotive world! Toyota inovations currently include advanced parking guidance systems, 8-speed automatic transmissions and even plug-in hybrid technology.
