Output Sensor : These sensors are used by the transmission to measure the output shafts turbine speed. The computer uses the signal from the input sensor and the output sensor to calculate the gear ratio and make the decision on when to shift the transmission. An output sensor is a vital sensor for the transmission to function properly.
How do the Output Sensors Work?
Depending on the style of the output sensor, an ac voltage signal or a hall effect sensor sends a signal to the transmission or engine computer. The sensor can use a waveform pattern to count teeth on a spinning output shaft that the computer can decipher and use for shifting of the transmission.
If you suspect a faulty transmission output sensor or any types of transmission problems, you should get your vehicle checked out asap. Ignoring a transmission problem can lead you to a transmission failure.
