OIL PRESSURE HOSE
Oil Pressure Hose : These hoses are specifically designed to hold oil pressure ranging from a few pounds to a few hundred pounds. These oil pressure hoses are typically used for oil coolers and turbochargers. The design of the oil cooler hose should be so that it can hold the oil pressure without bursting as well as not kinking. Often, these hoses use steel braiding either inside the rubber or neoprene or on the outside of the body of the hose. Oil pressure hoses often have a portion of steel or aluminum lines attached by solid crimp connectors and threaded nipples to bolt them from an oil port on the head or engine block to the engine oil cooler and or turbocharger. Oil pressure is critical for the engine to operate correctly so the design must be solid to ensure the engine does not fail due to a faulty hose.
When an oil pressure hose fails, they can take out a turbocharger or an entire engine. Sometimes, these hoses fail by clogging up with oil sludge which restricts the oil volume from a vital component. Other times, these hoses can fail by leaking or bursting. If the hoses are too close to the exhaust, missing straps or just normal wear and tear, they can fail causing either a leak or a major problem.
Inspections of the engine can prevent catastrophic failures caused by a faulty oil pressure hose. A qualified auto mechanic can inspect visually these hoses and let you know when one looks like it needs replacement. Keeping the oil changed and the engine properly worked on can also help prevent these hoses from failing.
