Instrument Cluster : Also may be referred to as a speedometer, is the informational center that tells the driver speed, fuel level, temperature of the engine, voltage, warning lights and or system messages. Older instrument clusters primarily used gauges and warning lights. More modern instrument clusters use computer signals to activate the gauges and warning lights. Some instrument clusters are using a computer screen to mimic the gauge look. Instrument clusters on some vehicles are used as a part of the theft system or immobilizer system.
Instrument clusters do fail on cars, trucks, vans and suv’s. Failures may include no gauge movement, warning lamps not illuminating, no messages and or no display. When an instrument cluster is not working properly, you may miss something important that could damage the vehicle or cause it to shut off. Most modern instrument clusters can be diagnosed with an auto scan tool.
