At Guy’s Automotive, all belts are available either in stock or they can be ordered. Belts help your air conditioning compressor, alternator, power steering pump, cooling fan and or your water pump turn with your engine. Belts can fail at any time, but with proper and regular inspections, you can help avoid your belt from breaking and leaving you stranded. Guy’s Automotive can help you by checking and or replacing your belt timely and keeping your car properly maintained.
Belts with cracks, separations, or stretch marks are easily detected by the staff at Guy’s Automotive. Some types of newer belts actually have to be measured by the thickness of the ribs to make sure there is enough thickness, similar to checking your tire tread. Other problems can cause squealing or squeaking belts which are very annoying. Smells of burning rubber can also be an indication of a belt rubbing the wrong way, a part like a belt tensioner or water pump failing or a pulley seized. Belt tensioners are used to put the correct belt tension or resistance on the belt. A sagging or loose belt causes premature or undue wear to any kind of belts. Guy’s Automotive has skilled technicians that can figure out sounds and make proper repairs that are needed.
Automotive belts include v-belts, serpentine, double-sided multi ribbed, and stretch-fit belts. V-Belts were the automotive belts used for many years on the early model cars and trucks. They fit into a V shaped groove and come in several thicknesses. Serpentine belts are commonly used on most cars from the early 80’s until today. They have a flat side on one side and a multi-rib side to drive the pulleys. Double-sided multi ribbed belts are used on some European cars. The belt ribs are on each side of the belt so that either side of the belt can be used to drive a pulley. Stretch-fit belts are commonly used on GMC, Pontiac, Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Ford, Lincoln, Mercury, Mazda, Chrysler, Dodge, Hummer, Mercedes Benz, Bavarian Motor Works (BMW), Subaru, Honda, Toyota, and Nissan. Vehicles that have stretch fit belts such as the Gates Micro-fit belts have the patented Twist-lock technology and are constructed with a highly engineered flexible polyamide cord for longer durability. They also require special tools to install. Guy’s Automotive is up on all the belt technology and can install all types of belts and belt related parts and tensioners.
