Early History

Audi resulted from one man’s vision and love for automobiles: August Horch. Horch, who worked at the Karl Benz, founded his namesake company, August Horch & Cie, in 1899 in Cologne, Germany.

Horch founded a second company and named it "Audi" — Latin for "hear" or "horch" in German — in 1910.

Audi launched its first vehicle that year, the Type A, a four-cylinder vehicle initially with a 2,162-cc engine. In the same year, Type B and later Type C vehicles were introduced, each becoming a success one after the other. These early Audi models even competed in races, winning the International Alpine Run.

In the 1920s, Audi was one of the top German automobile brands with international recognition.

Modern History of Audi

After the war, it took some time for Audi production to increase and the brand name to regain its early glory. Innovation was once again in full drive, and the company was working on improving its vehicles' design and technology. By the 1980s, it was again a name to be reckoned with, especially in Europe.

It introduced the "Quattro," the first German all-wheel-drive, turbocharged coupe that effectively marked the beginning of Audi Sport. By this time, Audi had already been introduced to the American market.

In the '90s, Audi shifted its focus to the luxury cars market, competing with Mercedes and BMW. The Audi 90, 100, and turbocharged 200 were released in that decade.

Audi Today: An Automobile Innovator

Fast forward to today: Audi has maintained its position as an innovator in automobile design and technology. Audi sales increased in the 2000s and 2010s with the expansion in new markets.

Today, vehicles have features like Audi Drive Select that allow the vehicle to adapt to driving conditions. It also offers the configurable Audi Virtual Cockpit and the Audi Connect service. In the early 2010s, Audi introduced e-tron, the hybrid and electric series. Today, the Q Series e-tron vehicles are among the world's most desirable luxury electric vehicles.

Audi is also working on fully autonomous vehicles, like many other manufacturers worldwide.

Audi Maintenance Schedule

To ensure your Audi lasts a long time and delivers the drive it did in the early days, it’s best to stick to the recommended maintenance schedule. Check your vehicle’s manual or contact us to speak to our technicians about the maintenance intervals for your specific Audi manual.

Generally, Audi vehicles require oil changes at 7,500 miles up to 70,000 miles and then every 5,000 miles. Cabin and engine air filters can easily last 20,000 miles. However, periodic inspection at every 5,000 miles is recommended.

As for fluids, brake fluid should be replaced every three years or 40,000 miles, whichever comes first. Transmission fluid replacement depends on the type of transmission in your vehicle.
